EPE Rate Proposal Case Information

Case no. 25-00082-UT, In the matter of the application of El Paso Electric Company for revision of its retail electric rates pursuant to advice notice no. 317.

On March 27, 2026, El Paso Electric Company filed an application with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission requesting approval to revise its retail electric base rates in its New Mexico service area.

About the Rate Proposal
EPE is asking the Commission to approve updated rates to cover rising costs and ongoing system upgrades. The company says it has invested about $2.4 billion since its last rate review, including $408 million in New Mexico, to improve reliability, replace aging equipment, and modernize the grid.

To recover these costs, EPE is requesting a $70.4 million increase in base rates. If approved, the average household would see monthly bills rise by $15.01 on January 1, 2027, and another $26.81 on October 1, 2027, for a total increase of $41.82. EPE notes that expected decreases in Renewable Portfolio Standard costs may help offset some of the impact.

The proposal also includes new customer options, such as a low-income discount, new time‑of‑day and off‑peak rate choices for businesses, and a Peak Time Rebate Pilot that rewards households for using less energy during peak periods.
