Customer Notice: PNM Rate Change Effective April 1, 2026

The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) wants to make PNM customers aware that the second phase of a previously approved rate change goes into effect April 1, 2026. This is the final step of a rate adjustment approved by the Commission in May 2025.

For the average residential customer, this change will increase the monthly bill by about $6.23. A similar adjustment occurred in July 2025.

Why the Rate is Changing
The updated rates help ensure New Mexico’s electric system remains safe, reliable, and ready for future energy needs. The additional funding supports:

  • Wildfire Prevention: Tree trimming and advanced technology to reduce fire risks.
  • Grid Upgrades: Replacing older equipment to ensure consistent, dependable service as New Mexico moves toward 100% clean energy.
  • Energy Storage: Large‑scale battery projects that store power and help reduce outages during peak demand.

Customer Protections
When approving this rate change, the NMPRC included measures to reduce the impact on customers. These protections include capped service fees and a requirement for PNM to contribute $1.5 million of its own funds to the Good Neighbor Fund, which supports customers who may struggle to pay their bills.

Other Cases Not Affected
This rate change is not related to the ongoing case involving Blackstone Infrastructure’s proposal to acquire PNM. That matter is still under review.
